FAQs
What are Fog Effects?
The term ‘Fog Effects’ refers to certain types of misting used not only for aesthetics but also for cooling ambient temperatures in areas without existing shade structures (e.g., patios, ramadas). Fog Effects are especially useful for sunbathing, pool areas, waterfalls, and uncovered sitting areas.
How do Fog Effects work?
Parts include tubing, specially designed fog nozzles, and a high-pressure pump that increases water pressure to 1,000 PSI. At this pressure, the water atomizes into micron-sized droplets that flash evaporate, creating a significant temperature reduction. More nozzles in a concentrated area create more fog.
I live in a humid climate. Will a misting system work for me?
Yes. General guidelines:
| Humidity | Temperature Reduction |
|---|---|
| > 90% | 5–10°F / 3–9°C |
| 40–90% | 10–20°F / 6–11°C |
| < 20% | 20–35°F / 11–19°C |
In humid areas, fans are highly recommended to aid in evaporation.
Where should I mount the mist line?
The mist line should be mounted around the perimeter of the area to be cooled. Proper installation creates a curtain of mist on all open sides. Mount the system between 8 ft and 12 ft (2.4m to 3.7m) off the ground.
Is my patio too small for a mist system?
Not at all. Patios can be as small as 16 linear feet and require as few as 8 nozzles.
Do I have to use soft water?
No. Most homes and businesses in Phoenix do not use soft water. While not mandatory, soft water can help improve nozzle performance.
How much water does a mist system and fog effects actually use?
Water usage varies depending on the size of the pump and number of nozzles used.
Is there any maintenance required?
Yes. Maintenance includes cleaning or replacing nozzles, filters, and a misting pump oil change. Visit our Mist System Maintenance Services page for full details.
